Diet
2 weeks ago I found out that I have an intolerance to wheat, dairy, fish and citrus. Put that with a low fat and sugar diet and no alcohol and I wondered what was left for me.First clear out the food cupboard and restock with things I can have, also looking at Beths food ideas and a book about GF, fat free, dairy free and sugar free cooking to give me ideas. I Then I started by changing my Dairy food, goats milk for filter coffee, soya milk for cereal. This was working ok so then last Tuesday I started by changing the wheat. This as been quite hard but with a good book and Beth on hand I have managed ok with that. Fish is not a problem as I ate very little of it and the same with citrus, I ate very little fruit and its just citric acid in food that was left. [ I might try taking this out later] I cannot believe how much better I feel. I have been on a very strong cocktail of pain killers for 3yrs and now I am down to just One painkiller left to take. I also took tablets for sickness every meal time [not any more] Then I took tablets to prevent mi grains [finished] I feel a new person now, I cant explain how much better I am.
Now the testing time comes. Eating out. Today we met Andy for lunch and went for an indian. I decided to have sheiki kebabs and chicken biriyani, I know its not low fat and its got ghee in it but I had to try. Result I felt sickly for a couple of hours after but not too bad, I was expecting to be a lot worse but 8hrs later and I have a slight tummy ache but I can live with that.
In December it is the family Xmas meal where we all meet up some where for Xmas dinner. My sister got the menu for us and I realized there was very very little I could have, so I gave the place a quick call, spoke to the chef, explained mt diet. NO PROBLEM . Starters I have picked a fruit dish that as alcohol in but they will omit it for me. Turkey dinner , I will pass on the stuffing and sausage and gravy. Dessert, that was a problem as I couldn’t see anything that we could change so I am taking my own xmas pudding and sauce for them to re heat. then its coffee and mince pies so again I shall take my own along.
The Chef was more than happy to work round every thing with me, so all I can say to that is
WELL DONE to THE DOG AND GUN GLUSBURN Nr Keighley Yorkshire

We’ve found most *chefs* are more than willing to help, but not always the wait staff. We’ve gone right to the chef several times.
